Taipei (21-26 Feburary 2016)

This is XXB's first flight experience and Hubby's first business trip that we tagged along.

Sister-in-law and mother-in-law went with us.

Would like to share a bit of the on air experience for XXB. From Singapore to Taipei, he was quite good, only make a bit of noise when he wants to sleep. But from Taipei to Singapore, it was disastrous. The announcement of aircraft preparing to land was so loud that he was awaken. Then the pressure came in, he refused to eat the guava i prepared for him and didn't want to latch as well. Tried playing with him for awhile until i had a bit of headache. Once i stopped, he started to throw tantrum and cry. Finally when we see the lights outside the plane windows, he calmed down and we landed successfully. phew!!!

The temperature was around 12-16 degrees throughout our trip. Cold at times but cos i am carrying XXB, the body heat helps. And i am totally impressed by their nursing rooms, even those in some train stations were good.

Day 1: Singapore to Taipei, Taipei main station, Ningxia night market
Waited quite some time in the airport for Linxiu to clear custom, bought some drinks and bread.
Proceed to the hotel/apartment to unpack and freshen up. All were hungry so we went to the food court in the Taipei main station mall. The food was bad. perhaps the stall that i chose wasn't good. the others seems satisfied with their food. We went to NingXia night market to kill time, as we are all full, didn't really eat a lot there and also tired from the flight therefore, went back early to rest.

Day 2: Xi Men Ding. Shilin night market
relaxing day. Went to modern toilet themed restaurant for lunch. I find that their decor has changed. Not as nice as the previous time that i went. Sil and Mil have not been to Taiwan before so I brought them there to have a feel. Then shop around xi men ding. At night went to Shilin night market for dinner with Hubby. As usual, i feel that the food that doesn't really match my taste. had the honey bitter gourd juices and the taste is so bitter that i need to force it down my throat. Bought a lot of bags for loved ones. I really like the design and best of all it is waterproof. And also becos my backpack zip is torn, no choice got to buy a new back pack there. the stall owner is so nice that she draw a curtain in her shop to let me breastfeed and prepare a chair for me to sit. so nice of her.

Day 3: Jiu Fen, Shi Fen, Tofu Street, Raohe night market
very very tiring day as we woke up super early. We engaged a car to bring us around for a day (9-5pm). it cost us 3000NTD which is quite cheap i supposed since we went Jiu Fen/Shi Fen/Tofu street. Easier for us since i brought baby along. Along the way up see the waterfall at Jiu Fen and walk along the street had my favorite popiah ice cream and also tried the famous dessert (red bean soup with sweet potato, yam, sesame, etc glutinous ball). had our lunch there then proceed to Shi Fen. Wanted to go to the waterfall but Mil say too cold and need to walk for 15mins so they decided to walk back to the car then proceed to the railway track (signature of Shi Fen). Many people are releasing the lantern on the railway track and only then we realised there will be train coming every hour. Took a look at the train station, really looks like sth we see from the drama. a lot of shops selling lanterns and food. Other than that nothing much. Proceed to Tofu street (very similar to dan shui old street). Very few people around that street, we only bought a soy pudding back to the hotel. but the pudding dont taste nice. we dont like it. Head back to the hotel to put things and rest before Hubby finishes work. Met at the train station nearest to Raohe station. Had all the snacks as dinner. eat along the way. there is a big temple at the entrance. long queue for the pepper biscuit. i like the egg omelette.

Day 4: Hello Kitty Cafe, Chiate, Zhu Jian Huo Guo San Min Dian (dinner)
this is the most relax day as everyone is tired and adapting to the cold weather. having enough rest before we head out to Hello Kitty Cafe, thought of having lunch there but when we reach there like 3pm, they only serve desserts and cakes. No main course, their main course starts at 5.30pm. We nearly faint as we were hungry and travel all the way there, doesn't make sense if we just leave this place. So we decided to stay there for dessert, get some warmth as it is raining outside. So we each order a dessert set which include a drinks, pudding and a cake. that cost from NTD280 onwards. I would say it was expensive. the service was good though and the shop is really cute and warm. we ate and chat for about an hour then head off to Chiate. Wasting our day away at KFC outside the train station. Baby want to drink milk so we went in to get some warmth and i breast feed. they ate some snacks while we wait for Hubby to finish work. we spent more than an hour there.. again chatting away. Finally we went to our favorite Chiate to buy milk pastry and pineapple tarts.. a must buy in Taipei. Hungry and cold, we decided to go for shabu shabu (Steamboat). We googled and found one nearby (within walking distance from Chiate). the worst thing is long queue. We waited for almost an hour to be seated. Stood in the cold. Lesson learnt, need to call and make reservations in Taiwan's restaurants. I would say the steamboat was quite good... free flow of ice cream and drinks. they have like 12 flavors of ice cream. the blueberry yogurt attracts me. most importantly, it was cheap. NTD 1200 for 4 pax. on top of the set you ordered they have a ready set with veg, prawn, balls, etc FOC. one set each is enough to make us full already. i had beef, Hubby and sister had lamb and Mil had fish. We are all satisfied with the food.

Day 5: Danshui, Xi men ding
cold day. Danshui is cold becos it is along the river/sea (dont know whats that called). there is no blockage and when the wind blow, i want to faint. i only wore a long sleeve and t shirt over it. Jacket was used to cover the legs of my baby cos the thick pants that i wore for him becomes short (exposing his small thigh) when seated in the carrier. My bad! roaming around snacking and buying those cute stuffs along danshui old street. i was too cold to eat the long ice cream. very soon after we conquer the old street, head back to hotel to unload our damages. Proceed to XMD thereafter. Hubby has company dinner so we settle dinner ourselves. Continue shopping at XMD (helped Hubby buy a jacket at 590NTD). roam around then head to dinner. the dinner was normal that i can't even remember the shop name. i wanted to eat the dice beef, but there are polices, all the push cart were gone within seconds. i don't know where they hid. No choice, we head back to hotel to reunite with Hubby then buy some snack from the convenience stall just under our hotel. That marks the end of our trip.

Day 6: Taipei to Singapore
slacking day. packing in the morning then realised that we are left with about 1hr+ before heading to the airport. Hubby decided to slack in the room while i actually wanted to go shop around the underground street but baby was sleeping. I have no choice but to slack with them. Boring. Had all day breakfast in the room. 2pm head off to the airport. the nursing room in the airport gives free diapers of different sizes. I am so impressed. thumbs up for Taiwan's nursing rooms. I really enjoyed going to their nursing room. My little boy had rashes on his cheeks, chin, elbows and thigh. Poor boy, guess the weather is too cold and dry.
