Penang (2 - 6 Sept 2024)

Day 1 - Airport to Berjaya Penang Hotel
This is Caylene's first flight and she was super cooperative and happy onboard.. she fell asleep before we board the plane and woke up just before taking off. I quickly latch her, after latching she was happy and playing even when there is turbulence. It was a short flight so it was quite manageable. She played all the way until we land. Didn't fuss a bit... phew...
Trying to take grab from airport to hotel but was cancelled by the driver. The price keep going up. From 50+ to 70+ to 90+ but still can't get a driver. We end up going to the airport taxi which cost 45rm, much cheaper. But the taxi is so dirty and uncomfortable. There was a bad traffic jam, whole journey took us more than an hour.

The hotel room is average. No bath tub and abit rundown. But the room is big, has a super king bed, 1 queen bed and 1 single bed. Toilet quite small but manageable.
After settling down, we went out for dinner at Palau Tikus... about 20mins walk from hotel. The satay, oyster omelette and curry mee are good... After dinner, we went to supermarket to stock some drinks and tidbits... snack party in the hotel to end our first day.

Day 2 - Upside Down Museum, Audi Dream Farm and Queensbay Mall
Hotel bf was not bad. Good spread but we realised it is all vegetarian. The nasi lemak taste good but it comes with vegetarian chicken and vegetarian curry.
First stop is upside down museum and I think is quite cool and interesting. The kids had fun inside. The whole experience took about an hour. There are stations with different themes and every theme has a person there to help us take photos. Guide us with the pose before they snap the picture. That makes it swift and efficient. But downside is you don't really get to play around freely.. After you there is always another group waiting.
We walked along the street searching for lunch. But many stores are closed. We ended in a cafe with very nice ambience. The food, dessert and drinks are good.. thumbs up. The owner is friendly too. We had pasta and chicken chop, cempedak crepe cake for dessert and the taste was really good. The matcha latte, ice chocolate and black coffee were great too.
We took a grab to Audi Dream Farm. This is the most expensive ride so far. It cost 68rm and the ride was about an hour. Because it was somewhere up the hill, it was quite deserted. We spent 110rm for entrance and animal food. The whole experience took us less than an hour. I wouldn't recommend this place. There are goats, rabbits, camel, chickens, fish, deers, cows, birds and horses. All like very hungry. The moment we walked near, they will all rush forward. The rabbits are the cutest. It was really hot and the farm was quite boring. The worst part is ordering grab. Can't find a driver for almost 30mins. We tried our luck by taking a 4seater grab and luckily someone accepted. Really not an interesting place and not assessible at all.
We decided to head off to a easy to grab place. Queensbay Mall is a shopping mall just like Singapore. The kids become active again in the aircon... we bought krispy Kreme - 6 for 26rm so much cheaper than SG. And the kids eureka popcorn.. Japanese dinner at Azuma - the food is average. Also managed to buy some clothes for us before heading back to the hotel.
Day 3 - Komtar - Durian - Anjung Gurney hawker
The hotel bf changed abit. Not bad still, though Ceyan was planning to eat the waffles again. We went to Komtar after bf (woke up quite late). Bought the 12 attractions package for the family. Today 300plus rm. Include everything except the go kart and jungle gym. The dinosaur research center seems to have shrink in size. Not many Dinos and the experience was short... we went for the sky walk for the first time. Happy that both boys tried though they were a bit afraid of the heights. Topogun was so fun. The kids can't have enough but because we are meeting their daddy's friend at the durian place, they can't play longer. Overall they loved Komtar...
We went to Ah Tek Durian after that. The durian is good but very expensive. My son prefers the durian kaki as it is located on the hill and they have more variety. The overall vibe is different.
We went to Anjung Gurney hawker for dinner. The kids were complaining because it was hot and crowded. There is a long a queue for char kwey teow. But the wait wasn't so worth it. It is special to have duck eggs option. The taste was ok but not worth the wait we felt. The food wasn't fantastic.
Day 4 - Him Heang pastry and Hard rock hotel
Rushed to Him Heang pastry to buy some local food for our families. Came back to the hotel in time to pack and check out. Went searching for some local food. Walking along the street under the hot sun, the kids are complaining again. Finally we came to a coffeeshop. The food was average again. To make the kids happy we went to have some ice creams to cool down before going to Hard Rock Hotel.
Hard Rock hotel was cool and good.. the family room is nice and comfy. The kids can't wait to go for their swim. There are few water slides, sandy pool, young kids waterplay area and a basketball hoop on the water. The kids had so much fun. Took the slide twice with xxm. She even fell asleep while we are still in the pool.
We went to long beach hawker for dinner. The food are average and very expensive. Is a place for tourist. Many different types of cruisine there... so all the dishes are marked up... we ordered so much like pasta, satay, wings, prawn omelette, beef hor fun and stingray.
Day 5 - Check out, Komtar and home sweet home
It was a rainy morning. The bf has more varieties and better spread. Back to the room to pack and had some soaking time with baby girl. We went to the kids club after checking out but it was quite boring and the staff there don't look friendly. We had a good lunch at Hard Rock Cafe. We planned to go indoor playground at Golden Sand Hotel but the review mentioned that long sleeve and long pants are needed to play some slides. After discussion with the kids, they decided to go back Komtar for the Topoggan.
We bought separate tickets for GP go kart, Topoggan and Jelly bumper car. They had fun at the go kart. Caylen keep turning into the pit stop, so funny.
They played more than an hour at the Topoggan, keep going up and down until they have no more strength to pull the float up. Many times, Caylen just leave the float to Ceyan. He has to pull 2 floats up.
The Jelly bumper was the last game they played for the day. It didn't ended well. The air wasn't good and perhaps Caylen had too much fun earlier, he was coughing and laughing when playing. But ended up vomiting after the game.
Caylene cooperated during the return flight. She was awake the whole time. Played with daddy until suddenly she whine and rub her ear. I guess the pressure is causing her discomfort. I took over and coax her with snacks then she felt better.
I have to say this family trip is great. I am happy to have let it happen. We managed well and everyone was happy. Seeing the kids enjoyed themselves, a little tired is still worth it.
